Meditation

We are into a new year all the excitement of Christmas has been and gone. New year is all about looking at your life setting new goals and assessing were you are in your life right now. For me the same as many other people I set new goals and they last about a month if I am good. So this year I am not setting myself unrealistic goals that I know I do not stand a chance of keeping up.
So what are my goals for the 2009? One of them is to learn to meditate more regularly, meditation is something that requires regular practice and is a learnt skill but it is something that everyone can do and is a great way to handle stress related conditions. Philip Humphreys one of the therapists from the Wellbeing Clinic is facilitating a class on meditation and personal growth in Nottingham. For me this is a great way to enhance and build on my meditation experience. I am hoping it will help me to be able to calm my very hectic mind that I sometimes have a great deal of trouble shutting off.
For a lot of people there is going to be a great deal of uncertainty in 2009 with job losses, not helped by hysterical media coverage. I think that meditation is a great way to calm the mind and reduce the fear that is around at the moment it is important that we all remember to be kind to each other and ourselves. (By the way that is my second new years resolution.)
Ok so we are halfway through the year and I have been doing my meditation practice regularly. I have kept up my new years resolution(there is a first time for everything). Meditating with other people has been an enlightening experience after getting over the embarrassment factor of humming with other people.
It has helped me to realise that I don't need to keep my mind empty all the time but when thoughts arise, which they do quite a lot I can just acknowledge that they are there and let them go without passing any judgment on them. (Doesn't work every time but I am defiantly getting better at it.) Meditating allows me to create space within my mind that helps me to feel more relaxed and this time is just for me by having this time I am able to be more mindful living in the moment.
