My Daily Cuppa

"Better to be deprived of food for three days, than tea for one" (Ancient Chinese Proverb)

Like most people I like nothing more than a nice cup of tea, in fact the day does not start before the first mug.Tea can have a powerful effect on the body mind and soul. More and more people are choosing to drink a huge variety of teas everything from peppermint to white tea.  Most people want to cut down the amount of caffeine and tannin  they are consuming and these teas are a good alternative, but teas can be used for their medicinal qualities as well.  There are a huge range of health benefits from  drinking tea, everything from helping arthritis to improving digestion to weight loss and stopping the aging process, the list is endless.

But one of the issues that are not discussed so widely is whether they are organic or not and the benefits of drinking organic. The vast majority of mass produced tea that is consumed is grown using chemicals, pesticides, toxins and herbicides. This kind of tea is then ground into a dust and sold, consequently it has very little health benefit in fact it could be argued that it is detrimental to your health. Where as organic tea is produced without all the above things which is better for us and the environment. Perhaps one of the most talked about teas is green tea so I am just going to list a few of the health benefits of this tea. It is said to be helpful with..........

  • cancer
  • rheumatoid arthritis
  • high cholesterol
  • cardiovascular disease
  • infection
  • impaired immune system.

The secret to green tea is the fact that it is a very powerful antioxidant.

Drinking a different type of tea is something that we can all do to improve our health it is a simple thing to do and there is a huge variety to try, even if you don't get on with the first one you try keep trying. It took my work colleague a while she describes most teas as tasting like a pair of old shoes (having never tasted old shoes I am not convinced by this but each to there own.) Eventually she found one she likes.

If you would like to know more about ways to improve your health please see the links on the right hand side. If you are going to use teas for a health regime to treat an ailment please contact a reputable health care professional.
