Polycystic Ovaries and Reflexology

As one who has suffers from polycystic ovary syndrome I know first hand what an upsetting condition it can be; affecting you both physically and mentally, it can also affect your appearance and self-esteem. It is a condition that affects millions of women both in the UK and worldwide, in many different ways.
The symptoms can be wide and varied :
- irregular periods, or a complete lack of periods,
- irregular ovulation, or no ovulation at all,
- reduced fertility - difficulty becoming pregnant, recurrent miscarriage,
- unwanted facial or body hair (hirsustism),
- oily skin, acne,
- thinning hair or hair loss from the scalp (alopecia),
- weight problems - being overweight, rapid weight gain, difficulty losing weight,
- depression and mood changes.
So what is the answer? This is a condition that never goes away. It is about managing the symptoms. As this condition affects women in different ways it requires an individual approach to treatment. With the help of complementary therapy it is possible to manage these symptoms but it may take a bit of trial and error to do this and find out what works for each woman.
Initially, I found that reflexology combined with nutritional therapy worked well for me. Reflexology helped to balance out my hormones and was wonderfully relaxing. With polycystic ovaries it is not unusual to have bad eating patterns: I was horribly erratic with my eating habits, I craved huge amounts of carbohydrates (not the good sort), I once ate a whole loaf of white bread in one sitting - clearly not a good thing to do. What I did not know at the time is that this was affecting my health.
A nutritional therapist can help identify the gaps in your diet and help prescribe the correct supplements. I saw massive improvements in my health this also allowed me to break my addiction to sugar and white bread.
Largely, I now have my condition under control, but from time to time I have a recurrence of symptoms, usually down to a stress occurring in my life, then I know it is time to get some help. At the moment this comes in the form of cranial sacral therapy and meditation.
So ladies, for any of you out there who are struggling with this condition, don't give up, you can manage your symptoms and you can feel better naturally. Get in touch with me if you want more information about what worked for me - the details are in the links on the right.
