Does your head feel like it is ready to explode? (Stress)

How did my day start I woke up tired as my husband had kept me awake half the night snoring, I then proceeded to be in a bad mood with the children because they were taking an age to get ready for school(where do all those socks and shoes go?) Consequently I arrived at work stressed and grumpy, but after a sit down at our local coffee house I was in a better frame of mind stress averted. Obviously this is a short term stress but for some people stress continues relentlessly.
So what exactly is STRESS and whendoes it start to negativelyeffect your health?
As we have said stress can be short term either to protect us when we are scared or to get us through a difficult period, but what happens when this stress does not stop for what ever reason. When negative stress continues, you are at risk of serious health problems because stress can exhaust your immune system.Research shows that 70% of physical illness is caused by stress.Unfortunately many of us don't recognise the warning signals of stress, instead we burn the candles at both ends pushing ourselves harder and harder and then feel worse and worse as your bodies stress warnings become more intense and more frequent.
Stress often displays it's self as both physical and emotional symptoms.
Physical symptoms: sleep disturbances, back shoulder or neck pain, tension or migraine headaches, constipation, weight gain or loss, hair loss, tiredness, high blood pressure, skin problems, cold or flu.
Emotional symptoms:like physical signs, emotional symptoms such as anxiety or low mood can mask conditions other than stress. However stress symptoms may include nervousness, anxiety, low mood, frustration, mood problems, lack of concentration, trouble thinking, are all uncomfortable and can affect your performance.
Relationship symptoms: antisocial behaviour displayed in stressful situations can cause the rapid deterioration of relationships with family, friends and workers. A person may show increased conflict, increased arguments, isolation from social activities.
Unfortunately when some one is stressed they are not always able to recognise it, at the Wellbeing Clinic we feel that it is important to spend time talking to and making them feel comfortable and able to relax. Often with stress it is about finding out what works for you. If you or any one you know would like any more information please go the wellbeing clinic website.
